Mapping guide

2020-11-25
Hi!   Since people don't know how to create a map and keep asking me about it, I decided to write this guide from scratch. Video files will be added to this guide to make some things easier to understand. If you don't know where to download the installer, it will be on the website soon.   Practical examples of using shortcuts 1) Moving around the map - where your map is, click RMB (right mouse button) and then move with the mouse wheel (to stop moving, click RMB again). You can also move with the arrow keys. 2) Select the last selected objects - Shift + A 3) Opening textures - open textures with the T key. If textures don't load, it means you set the wrong path to ET. To fix it, start the program again, press P → game → and set the path again 4) Selecting vertices - select texture vertices with the V key. Then you can change the shape of the texture, for example into a triangle, a trapezoid or something else 5) Enlarging a texture - enlarge textures with Shift + B 6) Changing texture size (narrow, wide) - Shift + P 7) Fitting a texture - select the object, press S, then click fit and the texture is applied exactly 8) Changing the grid size - keys 1 - 9 9) Copying an element - copy with Space. Remember not to leave a copy of the texture inside the brush, because it won't be shown on the map. 10) Hiding textures - hide textures with the H key (not to be confused with deleting) 11) Deleting textures - delete textures with Backspace (the arrow above Enter) 12) Functions, scripts etc. - press the N key 13) Moving textures - move textures with the W key 14) Selecting edges - select edges with the E key (similar to vertices) 15) Rotating textures - rotate textures with the R key (there must be a circle, because pressing it twice only moves the texture) 16) Selecting a single face - select one face of a cube with the F key 17) Deselect everything or a single texture - press Esc That's it for the shortcuts. Soon we will be creating our own map. Subscribe to the YouTube channel to stay up to date: Channel profile. More guides coming soon Hi!   Today it's time to create our own map. Knowing the shortcuts will come in handy, because "Sony Vegas" started acting up and the quality was poor. That's why I didn't record the shortcuts needed to create this map. I'll try to describe them - you'll find the description under the video. Sorry to everyone for the quality. The video looks better when you watch it on the channel - at least it does for me.   Creating your first map:

If your view doesn't look like mine, do this: open GtkRadiant → P → layout → option 3 → OK → quit the program and start it again. Everything works on a copy-and-paste basis with "SPACE"; to move a texture press "W". Select single textures with "SHIFT + MOUSE1" Apply textures step by step: "T", then choose your texture by "double-clicking the texture", then press "ESC" and "T" Spawns: team_CTF_Bluespawn - a spawn belonging to the ALLIES team team_CTF_Red_spawn - a spawn belonging to the AXIS team info_player_Team_deathmatch - a spawn belonging to SPECTATORS At the very end of compiling the map, wait about 30 seconds - if nothing pops up, the map was made correctly.   Creating and packing into a pk3 file:   YouTube Video Open pk3 files with WinRAR. We pack the map into a pk3 file to check whether it works. Getting a pk3 file is very easy: just copy any map and remove from it all files except maps, and all files inside the maps folder. Then add your own map there. The map should have the .BSP file extension.   Checking whether the map works in the game:   YouTube Video The next and final step is to check whether the map works correctly. To do that, start ET and type in the console /map pierwsza_mapa (your map name). It should start like in the video; then check your spawns - whether you can move and whether the spawn isn't inside a wall. If an error pops up, it means we did something wrong. In that case open the program and check where the error is. Another map-making guide coming soon. Don't forget to subscribe to the channel to stay up to date: Channel profile
