How to move your config from nitmod and make your own cfg file
2026-10-06The new mod uses its own folder, etps, so the game does not see the settings you had in the nitmod folder.
You do not have to redo your binds and mouse settings. Moving one file is enough.
Where the files are
| Game | Folder |
|---|---|
| ET Legacy (Windows) | Documents\ETLegacy\ |
| ET 2.60b (Windows) | the folder the game is installed in |
| ET Legacy (Linux) | ~/.etlegacy/ |
Inside you will find the mod folders: nitmod (old) and etps (new). Your settings are stored in
profiles\PROFILE_NAME\etconfig.cfg inside the mod folder.
Method 1: copy the file (fastest)
- Close the game.
- Copy
nitmod\profiles\PROFILE_NAME\etconfig.cfginto theetpsfolder and rename the copy tomy.cfg. - Join the server, open the console (~ key) and type:
/exec my.cfg - Done. Your binds and settings are loaded and the game saves them in the new profile by itself.
Method 2: from inside the game
- On the old mod type in the console:
/writeconfig my.cfg. The game saves all your settings and binds to a file in thenitmodfolder. - Move
my.cfgfrom thenitmodfolder to theetpsfolder. - On the new server type:
/exec my.cfg
How to make a cfg from your current profile
Set everything up in the game the way you like it and type: /writeconfig my.cfg
The file appears in the etps folder. Keep it as a backup, move it to another computer or share it with a friend.
To load it: /exec my.cfg
If you want some commands to run every time the game starts, put them in a file called autoexec.cfg in the etps folder.
Why some settings "do not work"
The server enforces a few settings so that everyone plays under the same rules. If your cfg has different values, the game asks you to change them or sets them for you:
| Setting | Allowed |
|---|---|
snaps | 20 |
cl_maxpackets | 100 to 125 |
com_maxfps | 90 to 333 |
cl_timenudge | 0 |
rate | 25000 to 50000 |
r_picmip | 0 to 3 |
r_primitives | 2 |
r_ext_multisample | 0 |
Settings that existed only in nitmod are simply ignored and do no harm. For the new mod's settings see the Player settings page.
